Fangirl quilt
I declared 2025 the “year of the portrait quilt” and I was determined to make one. I took a workshop with LUKE Haynes and learned his portrait method.
I chose a photo of Duff McKagan, my favorite rock star. To make it even more over the top and kitschy I chose to use heart blocks as my base pattern.
I added hand embroidered embellishments, including tracing and stitching Duff’s autograph that he signed for me when I met him on a plane. (He was so gracious and generous, I was a bumbling idiot. I will never forgive myself for failing to mention that I was currently playing in a band led by his brother!)
I used a very very soft thrifted sheet for the white background and another thrifted sheet with roses (get it??) for the backing.
It’s slightly too small for true bedtime use but I still love it. A true tribute to one of my all time music and sober-life idols!
