sonoita sue

this quilt was inspired by my 1970s childhood bedroom. shades of gold and sunbonnet sue.

the background is a thrifted vintage sheet.

the sunbonnet sues are all hand dyed: either with commercial dyes or cochineal, and some are ecoprinted with Tucson wildflowers!

The binding was dyed with roadside wildflowers, collected in Sonoita. (thereby, she became Sonoita Sue...)

The backing is a thrifted organic cotton sheet.

had to photograph her at Wild Oak Farm in Sonoita....naturally.

  1. I love Sonoita Sue! You're on a whole new level with all of the hand dyeing you've been doing. So clever how you used the wild flowers in the dyeing process as well for the bonnets. And again FANTASTIC pictures.
